I need a lesson in brakes 101. Why do the drum rear drum brakes on my 79 xs squeal like a pig? They stop great but heads turn. Would love to know what to look for before I disassemble. Thanks.

well there a lot of cause's of brake noise, brake dust is most likely,clean the shoes and brum I also take a filr and take the edge off the leading edge of the shoe's,( the sharp edge cause the shoes to vibrate and make noise )

Thank you guys. I have some glass beading,filing and general cleaning to do and should be good to go and stop squeak free.

All is quiet on the rear braking front after cleaning and sanding and light lubing. Thanks again for the info that I suppose I should know by now.
