So a buddy give me an old sportster tank he had laying around a few months back and after looking at it for a while, I decided to go that route on my build.

But here’s my issue(s):

1- the petcock hole is too high on the tank for the angle it will sit. This means will only have access to half of the tanks capacity...or I could somehow relocate the petcock hole to the bottom end.
2- after stretching the neck for fitting it, I noticed I had stretched it a little too much and caused some tearing around the front neck. No big deal, this just means I’m going to need to weld a support bead over it.
3- going to have to strip it and weld some sort of mounting hardware on it.

My question is, do you guys think it would be worth it to go through this effort or just order a new one and be done with it?

Honestly it’s gonna depend on your skill level, or level of skill you have access to. That tank looks to be salvageable, adding a new peacock bung is doable. Pressure test afterwards.

There should be a flat spot lowere down simular to the area around the current pet cock location. Mine did. Its a late sixties
