Putting labels on sockets rarely works as they end up getting so greasy and oily that the labels peel right off the slick chrome. Scuffing them up and spray painting them different colors works a lot better.

Deface a tool with paint or tape. No way. Put sockets on racks and put them back where they belong when done. After awhile you will know which ones are which.
95% of these sockets I've had for over 40 years. The other 5% I bought not because I lost but because it was something I needed and didn't have.
Keep wrenches in holders. If there is organization and you put your tools away when done they will be easier to put away and find when you need them.
I believe the gentleman have weaker eyes
I have marked up some of the small sockets with a permanent marker pen
10 - 12 -13 -- 1/4 inch sockets red green and blue
I work a lot outdoors ( I suppose it is a habit since working construction ) so I don't put the sockets or tools back where they came from
Instead they are laying on a tin tray or in the toolbox .
So it saves a little time to have different color on them.
Also if the light is weak
Get a dremel engraver, engrave whatever you need to on them and then hit the engraving with a paint marker. Will it last forever? No. But neither will tape
