The 78 special I bought the tank is rusty saw a 650e tank on fleabay will this mount up without any gaps between the seat and tank or other problems thanks, Craig
It's a good swap, will give you an extra gallon of fuel. I found that the '78 Standard tank on an '83 Heritage Special will rub on the top front of the airbox sidecovers due to the Specials sidecovers angle....the rear of the Standard tank may be a bit lower or wider....wider most likely....never really looked as it's not an issue for my application, let it rub.
From 74 up all the tanks interchange. The earlier were a bit different length. Just can't recall if longer or shorter.
Earlier had two petcocks, mid years had two vacumm petcocks, later had one vacumm petcock. So you may or may not need a tee fitting to match the tank to the carbs.

Petcock bolt centers changed when they went to vacuum petcocks in 78 or 79. Single petocks came with the BS34s, 80 up in the US. So only Special tanks had a single petcock in the US.
