splitting case

engine is on the ground down to just case. can I split the case without having to mess with much internal, just lay aside or something. I want to polish the case, but I don't want to mess with the guts too much if I don't have to

If you don't need to split the case, don't do it. Unless you are fixing something leave it alone. I know a couple people who did, and didn't need to, and now the thing leaks. I'm not saying it will leak, but if you don't get the seal correct it will. If it ain't broke...
