i used the search button, but still have a couple questions.. working on a '78 with stock carbs . going to use the tube and yard stick setup for synchronizing carbs.. where do i plug the clear hose into ? the more i read the more i'm confussed :confused:

There are "barbs" on the carb holders. The rubber boot holder between the carb and the head. If you don't have them then you need to get replacement holders, which I advise if yours are old, or make your own barbs,

If you need Carb Holders I would not use MikeXS holders, they don't hold up.
Go to JBM Industries. They will last and work great. http://www.jbmindustries.com/HOLDERS.html

flthead;

On some carbs there is a screw that can be removed, to give access to the intake area. My carbs (78SE) have that screw. That intake port allows you to measure vacuum or use a sych tool. You would need a screw of the right thread and drill a hole down through its middle. You also might need to grind the head of the screw to a size that the plastic tubing would fit. Thats how I use to sych my XS500C back in the 70's and 80's.................it did not have barbs.

I would not use Miksxs carb holders (manifolds)..............they were causing me to have air leakage and a high idle. I found they are manufactured to a size that does not fit correctly (to large) onto the carbs. I went back to my OEM stock manifolds that are 33 years old............they gave a nice tight fit, no air leakage, no high idle.

For those who need to make an adapter for the screw holes there is an easy way to do this. Go to the local auto parts store and buy some straight metric grease zirk fittings, about $2.00 for a pack of them, drill into where you can see the ball in the end of the fitting, the ball and a spring will fall out and you will have an adapter, this works to make hose adapters for fuel height measurements also. Bonus the ball and spring fit to replace the ball and spring that went flying when you took the choke rod out of your BS34s
