G'day all,
First time asking something.
I just pulled my forks apart on my 73 and the springs measure 400mm long

650 Central has

"Progressive Suspension" Early Model Fork Springs
Improves handling and retains OEM geometry.
For the 72-76 with 34mm diameter fork tubes.
These are a 30/40 lb. Recommended upgrade for stock bikes. Sold in pairs only.

#VL44-1115M..... $88.00

Mikes has

Performance Progressive wound Front Fork Springs - Fits: 34 mm. stock forks on
TX650A (1974) and XS650B/C (1975-76). Springs Improve handling while
retaining OEM geometry. Stops front end droop and diving during braking while
improving cornering stability. Progressive design combats bottoming in harsh
conditions by increasing resistance as spring compresses. 23mm. Dia. x 495mm. long.
Made in Germany
Part #27-1087 app $68.00

So mine are 400mm - 650 Central don't give a length and say they work from 72 to 76 and Mikes are 95mm longer than i've got, mine could be cut by PO. Mikes says from 74 to 76
And they're 20 bucks difference.
If mine have been cut i think I'd have a lot of dive under load or on rough roads. Bike came as a basket case.

The 495mm springs may not use the spacer at the top of the fork tube. Just a thought.

That could be it, the spacers are 88mm so wouldn't be much in it.

Still not sure why 650 central says theirs do 72 to 76 and Mikes do 74 to 76.
I pretty sure the tubes are slighty different.
