Can someone give me the torque specs on the four cylinder valve covers. Theres 3 nuts each and one has 4.
1979 XS 650 Special

5-7 lbs. Follow the "general" torque guide for the size of the part.
The 10mm nut is 7.2 lbs. and the 12mm nut is 15lbs.
But I don't use 15lbs on the 12mm nuts 7 seems fine.
5twins offered a good tip in if you put the triangle one on and look at the bottom, sometimes there is a small gap that can be eliminated by simply rotating the cover to the next hole.

In all Yamaha service manuals under torque specification.
The first chart is "torque" by size. 10mm nut or 6mm bolt is 7 ft lbs, etc.
The second chart is by part description.
The online manual at bikernet will have it.

thanks weekender, I just found my manual and you are correct. pg. (10) 61-62
thanks for the response men!

Yes, there actually is a torque value given for these on that page. They're not referred to as "Valve Covers" but I can't imagine what else this spec would pertain to .....
