Hey all. I have 78 xs650se.
Recently installed PMA. E advancer. And electronic ignition. As for wiring. I have got the yellow to the safety relay hooked up to the yellow from the PMA. but... what about the green wire to the regulator? Am I missing Something? How did that just get skipped? How can I just cut it out of the picture though if I can? What would the brown wire coming out of the regulator get hooked up to?

I just need to know where to plug the brown wire after all of this. how to skip the regulator

""""As Punkskalr says, rewire the whole thing.
But to answer your questions. The PMA has no yellow wire to hook to the safety relay. On your 83 the safety relay sends power to the headlight. You need to bypass the safety relay too. You do this by unplugging the safety relay and jumping the red/yellow to the blue/black. This gets the headlight to light.
Jump the two red/whites together. this will let the starter work.
Now you can remove the safety relay.
The brown wire that ran to the alternator was not a power out, it was power in. The brown wire supplied popwer to the brushes and the reg/rec controled the ground to power the rotor.
