I am looking to get a mig welder. I am a beginner but have someone to teach me. I don't need anything fancy but I want the option to run gas or flux. I want to spend only a few hundred dollars. What would you suggest?

Flap wheels for head porting/clean up

Where can I find bits like these? The ones on the right are mostly what I'm interested in; 3/8" flap wheels and a scotchbrite wheel. I'm wanting to do a little mild clean up work on a head and these would be perfect. BUT.....I can't find them anywhere. Searched all over ebay, went to a...

    Tools you should carry

Has anyone got a good tool list one should carry, beyond/better than the factory tool kit. I have done this for other bikes based on keeping track of what I use in the garage over time.

Just bought an Atlas 12x24 lathe! :)

Just unloaded this into my garage a couple of hours ago. It's an Atlas 12" x 24" lathe from the early to mid '60s. It weighs over 500 pounds with the stand so I used my engine hoist to get it in and out of my truck. This one has the quick change gear box for threading and power feeds, and a...

will most rotor locks fit on xs discs? The xs discs look huge to me. What locks are you using and which one should I buy? My bike has a ignition toggle and a start button so I'm trying to prevent someone from jumping on and riding away.

My Tube Bender - Fully Hydraulic - Pro Tools 105 HD

I mentioned in another thread that I would post pictures of my bender.. I built this last year. I spent a lot of time doing the math and researching hydraulic systems and benders to make sure everything I used would work well together and give me the speed and power I wanted. It's probably...

    Rear fender question...

To any and all skilled metal fabbers here: This, in my humble opinion, is one of the most aesthetically pleasing rear fenders I have ever seen. I'm not sure why... I think it's that I just love the way the lower "beaded" edge is partially linear, in contrast with the bulk of the fender's...

    i think i did good for $50

I have been looking on craigslist for a welder for a month or so and found a 110v century flux core for $50. I called him and he said it was junk and wouldn't weld anything. I've never had a seller tell me that before. I said I still want to look at it anyway I'm not going to build a sky...

    A handy item to carry

I was able to make an emergency fix on a clutch cable that had pulled out of the upper button, using one of these. The cable goes through the hole and the screw tightens down on it. In this particular one the screw forces the cable into a U-shape before it clamps down on it, holding it pretty...

    Helicoil?

I bought the 4m inserts to take care of my stripped carb bowl threads. I figured since I have metric taps could just use those. It looks like you have to use their specific tap though. Is this correct? Looked all over the internet to come up with the correct tap size for these inserts and...
