2018 Vintage Yamaha Rally

Pete and Lakeview here are more detailed trip ideas through Ohio and Kentucky:

1st premise: I-75 sucks

Pick up US 25 just south of Toledo off of I475. This is the old Dixie Hwy and was a major N-S route to, well, Dixie. It parallels I-75 and has little traffic. This will run into I-75 around Cygnet. Hop back on I-75 till Findlay
Deitsch’s Ice Cream https://dietschs.com in Findlay OH. This will not disappoint.
Pick up US-68 in Findlay
Around West Liberty there are the Ohio Caverns http://www.ohiocaverns.com in the mildly karst dolomite. There is also ice cream in West Liberty.
Airport Cafe north of Urbana has mediocre food, but you can watch planes take off and land.
Cedar Bogs is just south of Urbana is a small park but is interesting because it has the remmant flora from the Wisconsin Glacier. https://www.cedarbognp.org
Young’s Dairy north of Yellow Springs. https://youngsdairy.com
John Bryant State Park http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/johnbryan at Yellow Springs. Lore has it Simon Kenton jumped the gorge here and escape an impending stake burning.
Yellow Springs- a little hippy remnant. Craft beers. Veggie food. Decent burger.
Yamaha dealer just before crossing I-71.
Wilmington OH- just one of those towns where the architecture indicates 1880s prosperity. Where did these folks get all their money?
Mt Orab -craft beer
Ripley OH - the Rankin House. Rev Rankin was a well known abolitionist. His house on the hill above the Ohio River was a major stop on the Underground Railroad.
Cross the Ohio River at Maysville.
By the time you get to around Paris KY you are in the Inner Bluegrass and horse farms abound.
Kentucky Horse Park outside of Lexington is also worth a stop if you enjoy horses http://www.kyhorsepark.com

Now back onto I-75 to Knoxville TN.

Last year, Yamaha gave us 50+ tee shirts, kick stand pucks, etc, etc. Word has it, they're going to be a bigger presence this year. See rally post at XS11.com.
XS11 Friends,

Those that have attended the rally the last couple of years are aware that Yamaha has been donating some misc. goodies to our event.

Last year, Yamaha provided quite a good selection of small items; ~100 black Yamaha T-Shirts, kick stand pucks, key rings, lanyards, etc. etc. Everyone was happy to get some of these little goodie bag stuffers and it was nice that Yamaha's regional executives showed their appreciation.

This year, I've had some difficulty reaching the Executive I had been working with for the last several years. It would seem that when I changed jobs all of my digital correspondence was being sent to a "Quarantine" folder as it was a new and unfamiliar e-mail for my contact. He never received any of my letters or requests.

FINALLY! I've was able to reach the Yamaha Executive via phone and speak to him about our rally!!! I'm reluctant to quote our full conversation until all the details are finalized but I will say that Yamaha will absolutely be represented at the rally. YAMAHA does appreciate our brand loyalty and we are the "PERFECT TARGET AUDIENCE" for some of their newest products and machines.

The details of Yamaha's involvement will be finalized within the next couple weeks and I will post as soon as they are. This is going to be TOO COOL!

Sincerely,

So - how about it XS650 people - who else, beside Lakeview and I are going to Marty’s big bash??

We can’t let these big-iron multicylinder XS11/XS750/XS850 behemoths take it all!!! :hellno:

Mailman, Daniel Black, JimD54, KSHansen, 2M, 5Twins, gggGary.....c’mon 650 people!

I don't know what it means when folks click "GOING" on FB or go to the rally site and say they're coming. If they are coming, we're going to have two-smokes including enduros. We'll have Virago, VMax, FJ, XJ, XS, etc. I really can't say who will show up. Historically, this was an XS1100 rally for some time. We can't keep it going that way, but I know the XS1100 folks will be there. What I do know is that the beds at our resort are sold out. That's a very good sign. Plenty of tent space remains. The VJMC has given us a boost. John Chaves (Director, Yamaha 650 Society) is on the planning team and the Society banner will fly at the Iron Horse. I hope the XS650 numbers at least a dozen. Perhaps I'll have mine there!

If you wish to save us PayPal fees, send an email with your shirt request and payment to: VYRShirtOrder@gmail.com You may select the friends and family option there. Also, some of you north of the border may have had trouble with the shopping cart.

You may otherwise go to http:vintageyamaharally.com and wait a few seconds for a pop-up window (or click SHOP tab) that will take you to shirt order. The rest is self explanatory.

Also, we have one of these on each page.

No rally shirts will be for sale at the rally. Buy now or do without. Sale ends 31 August.

For those of you who are attending for the first time: You arrive and check in the IH office for your meals and lodging. Then walk into the main building and you won't miss us. We'll have a table where you sign in and meet the welcoming committee. Maybe you get a bag of goodies (I don't know for sure yet) You will receive your tee shirt at this time if you bought one.

I hope to see you there!

Love the site Marty - hilarious!

Cheers and see you soon!

Pete

PS - to all those attending, I donated to help the event.....did you?
