buildin' me a tracker

As a finishing touch, your bike is just crying out for replacement screws for the points and advance covers. Go to McMaster Carr's site and punch in part #92000A428, dead ringers for the originals in stainless. You can also get the smaller size (M5x10) for the alt. cover. I recommend using a 12 or 14 for that cover though. Yamaha cheaped out and used screws (the 10s) that were too short and don't reach into all the threads available.

Yup, been on my list, just never got around to it. Just went to their website, looks like you can only buy those screws in pkgs. of 25, although they're only $5.85 a pkg., the 6mm only come in 50 to a pkg. Kinda overkill.

Pregrid, would your friend who wired your tracker be interested in doing another one with appropriate compensation for professional services? I cant find anybody in central OR who knows how to do it. To me electricity is black magic. Beyond screwing in a bulb, Im lost. I would like to keep the electric leg. Kicking it would hurt too much.

Seriously?? Nobody in the great state of Oregon can do custom wiring. Lemme see if I can contact him (last coupla times he didn't return my calls) and I'll let you know. But if I were you I'd look a little harder. Anything to keep you from dragging your bike all the way down here. And you're gonna have to leave it so that makes two trips. I'll check but you really should do more diggin'!

You might try looking through this guy's post about custom wiring his XS400 street tracker for inspiration:

Dave fitted the new high performance oil pump and the Heiden Tuning cooler/filter conversion.

Thought you would like a look see

also the brass head bolt washers.

I am a big fan of cartridge filters, just put a new one in every oil change and i would imagine the filtration is better as well on a cartridge filter.

Classic,
I bought my first mille R model in 2001,,, Then the twats bought the yellow version out....The one above come a cropper on a track day ride out and had no insurance !!!!! shit

I always wanted a modern Vtwin and a couple of my mates had Ducatis and had nothing but trouble with them but the aprilia uses a Rotax engine and German electrics (Siemanns). My mate bought a aprilia Mille and I had a ride and was instantly hooked plus they are bullet proof and as reliable as a volkswagen

The Italians build beautiful things to look at but their reliability is another issue :banghead: till aprilia bought the Mille out

For stainless hardware and most other hard to find things, I always go to the local specialty hardware store. Small place, but they always have the most off the wall things I need in stock at stupid cheap prices. I rarely have to order from Mcmaster. There's usually a little shop like this in most towns...

That filter looks good, I may just have to get one. I agree on the cartridge vs the cleanable filter.

Dave,
Getting the front end together now the trees/yokes are to pick up.

Good Lord Leslie, don't you know you're not supposed to post porn here!?:D
Seriously, what a beautiful pile of goodness. You'll love those bars. Damn it seems like a long time ago I was where you're at, are you anxious?

Ha! hopefully I'll be starting the big "R" in January.
Racer Dave, The big R aint all that great. You never get a day off! The decisions are excruciating.. ride the bike(s), go fishing, golf, see what I mean? BTW, what is the threaded hole on the left side top of the swingarm for?

Pre, any problems with the fuel tank? Read some posts that claimed tanks from Omars (Robert's Omars, not Phil's)were eaten by ethanol fuel in spite of the representation that wont happen. I ordered one from Robert and have been waiting over a month.

Nosir, no problems at all. The first bit of gas came out with a blue-green tint to it (kinda made me nervous) but it's clear now. No worries!
