going to try to find a 1 53/64" plug today, i assume you remove the starter seal right?

i tried removing the seal last night but it's very tight, i don't wanna ruin it if i still need it for the freeze plug

Nope, tear out that old hard seal, and punch in the new freeze plug. I put them in from the backside, so the "dome" is facing out...

Most any Auto parts store will have drawers full of them. I just lightly ran the edge around the belt sander, then put a light coat of JB Weld around the lip to eliminate any oil drips.

got one at Napa for $.50.

1 53/64" was a bit too big, i removed some material with a flap disk, put a thin layer of JB weld around the plug and hammered it in - like pyroman said. it's curing now...

thanks for help dudes

That's freaking genius! I was going the route of of tearing down the starter and using just the end plate. I didn't even know they made freeze plugs that large. Saving myself a 1/2" tap and plug...priceless :D
