In looking at the parts diagram on Yamaha site and other vendors I cannot identify the part number but it appears to be no longer available. I was able to source the rubber strap from Mike's.

Does anyone have a spare available? It looks like the rear of my battery box where this would go has 2 mounting holes.

Not sure what you are calling an "early bike", I have bits and pieces left of the 1972 that is in that picture to the left. Would have to look to see if battery box and related parts are still there.

Any chance you could upload a picture showing where you think this bracket would attach?

I'll try to look in the morning and see what I may have.

Thank you for the reply. Bike is a ‘72. I refer to ‘70-‘73 as the early models.

Here are some pictures. Have no idea what the part looks like.

Rear part of battery box with the 2 holes.

There's a tab that goes there.... spot welded on.
Looks like a PO drilled out the weld and removed it. Far as I know, it's the catch for the strap across the tool tray.

The other hole is not centered on anything. Look like an added hole by the hack PO.

That explains it. That connector for the rear brake light was wire tied through those 2 holes.

Is the job of the strap to more hold stuff in the tool tray or a battery hold down?

I saw in the exploded view a contoured rubber strap that also goes around the battery horizontally. Assuming creates a friction fit to help keep battery in place?

Possibly Plan B. will be find or fab a similar shaped hook and bolt to tray through that hole. Not critical enough for me to pursue a replacement battery box.

Here are three pictures of the battery box off the 1972:
in one picture there is a red arrow that points to what I think is the remains of the rubber hold-down for battery.

It's a little rusty but only surface rust. If interested let me know.

That’s a sleeve to take up slack for an OEM battery. The replacements most of us use are larger for more CCA and that sleeve no longer fits.

Right at this point I'm not even sure which hook you are asking about . I'm looking at the battery box/tool pouch holder that has been off the bike for several years. What I have in my hands appears to have three hooks spot welded on in various places. If there are two separate rubber straps used I have no idea where the fourth hook would be.

I guess I could spend an hour or so cleaning this box up in the glass bead machine to make it look all pretty but for a part that I was only asking $10.00 for I can't see it would be worth my time and materials so guess it will go back on the shelf incase someone else has more need for it.
