I have a #1 carb body for an '81 CB750C Custom with the very tip of the pilot screw broken off and wedged into the carb body, came that way. I have tried using various things as a punch and lever to push this out. Everything that small bends or breaks. I saw someone using Nitric Acid on You Tube to dissolve the brass with only a few drops of Nitric Acid. Any ideas where I could purchase $10-$20 worth of Nitric Acid (just a few drops) to try this out for myself?

Grainger has it for 25$
but not sure it's the strength/% you need
there seems to be many choices on the web but not in small volume.

Just did some googling.... HNO₃ forms an oxide layer on pure aluminum... that will protect it. It's the alloying metals that are the killer...

However, most Japanese carbs are made from Zamak. When alloyed, it's usually about 90-94% zinc.... and yes, HNO₃ dissolves zinc as well as brass.

Can you put up a link to the video you watched?

Forgot to add... there's a very real possibility, depending on the metals, the HNO₃ will break down into hydrogen gas. Calls for caution. :yikes:

Heat and Thin Oil ? + Patience many cycles
Perhaps some other chemical mix Diesel + Thinner

I'm not a linkster at the moment. I did find 10-1 oz. bottles at walmart.com for less than $10 shipped. This is for an extra bank of carbs that I can temporarily use between three bikes. I have all of the good used and new parts to put this extra bank of carbs together except for this one carb body. I may also attempt to build another punch/pusher that is stronger and only sized for the hole about 1/8" from the end. I'll look for the specific title of the Youtube video.

Removing a broken off pilot screw with Nitric Acid, that's the title of the video on Youtube, by Jason's Daily Safari, 1:10 short. This guy just drops a few drops of acid down the hole and the brass is gone, says it won't hurt the carb.

Got an old carb body to sacrifice?

Can you see the tip sticking out into the throat of the carb? I also agree with Jim to try a test piece.

He is not showing how it is Coming out in the video .Maybe I am Radically Sceptical
But if it was me I would try to drill and use an extractor or so carefully . If a drill press close by The next video show that
Again heat and oil involved

A drill and extractor will not work. This is the very tip of the pilot screw and it is tapered. If I could push it out it would only go one way. Couldn't even chuck a drill bit that small in any of my drill chucks, even if I could get a drill bit that small.

How small drill could a drill chuck chuck if a drill chuck could chuck small drill?
