Installed a right hand gear shift on the flattracker.

Looks like I found the answer myself. went and checked the serial number on the race bike engine and it's S650 also. And I know that engine is a 73. So I guess 256 series engines are stamped S650.

While digging through some scrap engines. I found a 650 engine with s 650 in the serial number. The rocker cover for the decompressor is missing so that's out as a way to check. Is this a 256 type engine? Looked around online and it seems like it might be a early one. Thanks

I'm in southern ontario. I have 1 5/8 primaries going into a 3"x14" collector with a 6" perforated tube baffle 1 3/4 id with a stock 256 engine and 36 mikunis. We ran the factory wires from the points to the trigger side of the coil and fastened them both to the trigger end of the coil. Is that considered in parallel? I'm a little unsure about in series and parallel? Thanks

For dirt track midrange is important because it gets a good drive out of the corner. It needs to be smooth to keep from breaking the rear tire loose excessively with some overrev on the top to compensate for gearing issues and changes in track conditions. Not too much to ask is it :laugh:
