    "golden" wheels

Ive heard those type of wheel referred to as a "raised centre" wheel because where the spokes go in it's raised significantly from the bead area. A normal rim has a more gradual radius than that one.

    Reading needle jets?

I'm fine tuning the vm36's on my 650. It runs fine and starts good but is a little rich at idle. I have two sets of carbs from 650s to scavenge parts from plus my jet box. Anyhow. The needle jet in the bike is a 0-6 and the spare set has Q-5. Are the 5's leaner? The needle on the bike is 6h9 and...

    S 650 serial number?

Looks like I found the answer myself. went and checked the serial number on the race bike engine and it's S650 also. And I know that engine is a 73. So I guess 256 series engines are stamped S650.

    S 650 serial number?

While digging through some scrap engines. I found a 650 engine with s 650 in the serial number. The rocker cover for the decompressor is missing so that's out as a way to check. Is this a 256 type engine? Looked around online and it seems like it might be a early one. Thanks

    Exhaust discussion?

I'm in southern ontario. I have 1 5/8 primaries going into a 3"x14" collector with a 6" perforated tube baffle 1 3/4 id with a stock 256 engine and 36 mikunis. The other guys had a 2-1 with longer primaries dumping into a single 36"? Jemco style megaphone. That was a full race 750. The third one...

    Exhaust discussion?

Since l finally put my flattracker together it' kind of lit under a fire under my ass lol A Anyhow is there a general rule of thumb for type of exhaust system? We race in vintage 1/2 mile flattrack. At the last race we had 4 yamahas and 4 separate types of pipes lol

Two condensors on total loss ignition?

2 kids, lots of bikes and riding in a trophy class doesn't support a 500 bucks plus ignition system lol. I'm sure it works great just not in my budget. Thanks for the reply though.

Two condensors on total loss ignition?

We ran the factory wires from the points to the trigger side of the coil and fastened them both to the trigger end of the coil. Is that considered in parallel? I'm a little unsure about in series and parallel? Thanks

Two condensors on total loss ignition?

Hi l have a 73 650 engine in a flattrack frame. We're running a stock dual points ignition into a single 4.7 ohm harley style coil. The bike seems to work fine. We wired it with a condensor for each set of points using the factory wiring. All the diagrams l see on here just show one. Are we...

1 53/64 frost plugs in Ontario

Just thought I'd give a quick heads up to anyone in Southern Ont that had trouble finding a 1 and 53/64 frost plug. After I searched high and low(napa, uap, apc, carquest, etc) for the proper plug using the dorman #555-083 my local APC dealer cross referenced it to another local Carquest under the...

    XS650Direct

Yeah I'm not overly impressed with them right now. I tried to order a PMA from them and was told it was out of stock. I tried to get them to contact me with some info as to when it would be in stock with no response of any kind. 10 days later I gave up and ordered a Boyer from Walridge in Lucan...

New '81 Special - time to make the exhaust tasteful

I actually like the looks of those pipes. Are the mufflers rebuildable? Sometimes you can take the baffles out and repack the baffles with new fibreglass. That will change the exhaust note. Even if they are are not glass packs you you might see where you can modify them internally to make them...

    best CV carbs

For dirt track midrange is important because it gets a good drive out of the corner. It needs to be smooth to keep from breaking the rear tire loose excessively with some overrev on the top to compensate for gearing issues and changes in track conditions. Not too much to ask is it

    best CV carbs

So was it 78 that they went to the linked carbs? I'm assuming the spring loaded needles are only available on linked ones? Thanks for the info. I have an old set of 36mm vm 's from a xs650 /750 flattracker that I'm debating on installing but I have to get intakes for them and they are both left...

    best CV carbs

We have a 73 650 with the twin throttle cables. We put on a set of carbs (twin cable type also) They have a round venturi as opposed to the original style that had a hump on the floor of the carb. We thought they came of of a tx750 but now I'm not sure. In any event they worked fine with a 2-1...
