Hey All,
I have an 82 XS I picked up that the previous owner overtorqued the Neutral Detent bolt on. The assembly (spring, bolt, and detent itself) is there and there is just a milimeter or so of thread left on the housing so I can kind of hand screw the assembly in and it holds...Obviously...
so ive got a 21 x 3.25 in rim, i believe the tire size i need is 120. im looking for a low profile tire with vintage looking tread. havent had much luck though. not looking for a ww either. thanks could i fit a 300 tire on to a 325 rim or is this a terrible idea?
I picked up a Actron analog dwell meter today to do a tune up on my Camaro. I'm excited because I can also now fine tune my XS and my GL. Question is, I double the 8 cyl reading for a 4 cyl engine. I assume I double it again for a 2 cyl? That being said, for a dwell setting on the 650 of 93...
I love my Bike but, finding Something to make it more comfortable such as a trunk or saddlebags is a pain in the ass for the most part. I have done a lot of up grades Like 2 up Saddlemens seat and and Triumph Bonneville handlebars. I bought a windshield off of ebay fairly cheap to make a long...
I just got these Emgo shorty mufflers.
Any suggestions on how to attach them? I have some clamps..my pipes are 1.5" and the mufflers are that as well, it is, however, not a tight fit..
My headers angle slightly up as well.
Should I cut a little 'slit' in the mufflers so that the...
I live the look if this seat. Does anybody know where I could find something like this that follows the curve of the frame? Or, would I be better off just trying to fabricate my own? I have zero experience in this subject, so all help is more than welcome.
I've always had a love/hate thing for the XS clutch worm. My stock XS1B has a factory clutch worm in excellent shape, replaced 16 years ago, kept clean, lubed and adjusted. The clutch cable is also factory, in excellent shape, cleaned and lubed. Clutch action is fine (2-finger for me), but...
Hey guys. Pretty new to the forums as well as owning a 650. Ive pretty much been a car guy, but have recently gotten the bike bug. Picked up my 650 this summer and have already began replacing and modifying. Everything i've gotten/done has been pretty straight forward in terms of installing...
I just redid my ignition. But I've decided to get rid of the battery. Can I just swap out the alternator for a permanent magnet rotor if I put in a rectifier and condenser? Trying to avoid digital parts.
On side note, the challenge is to build a EMP proof zombie apocalypse motorcycle. I'm...
I recently bent a valve on my 80 xs650, which prompted me to take apart the top end replacing valves, rings, cam chain, tensioner etc. It runs great now, but my dad also has an xs650, and we were both wondering what are some tell tale signs that signal the coming failure to this system. He has...
Mmkay so im trying to remove the head cover, took all 15 bolts and nuts out of the head and the cover was being stubborn and not wanting to go easy, contemplating my naval I was tinkering with things gave the clutch a turn then the head cover broke lose..? So I'm thinking 'ok sweet now it'll...
Hi everyone, I am new to the XS world and just recently picked up my first XS for free. It is a 500 though. I would like to convert the engine to a 650 and making plans to do that, but as far as frame, suspension and everything else...what are the differences? Is it the same platform as the 650...
Hello, dumb question. I am putting my engine back together and im back to the point where i put my timing chain back on but i keep coming up one tooth short on it. Is it supposed to strech cause im sure i have all of it unkinked down below so im sure its flush. So, if someone can enlighten me...
Hi all,
My right fork was leaking oil, so I went ahead and replaced both seals.
Getting the old seals was really tough, but I got them out.
For replacements, I used "LEAK PROOF" seals which came with a metal washer...

Starting to plan my winter project for Tater.
I really need to do something about the front forks. I did the Minton Mod, but I'm pretty sure I screwed it up by mis-reading the directions and drilling an extra set of holes instead of just enlarging the set that was there.
I will dub around...
Hello,
This is my first thread. Hope you guys could help me out.
I have bought a new dynamo and regulator at a dutch XS650 webshop. I have problems with getting enough power out of the regulator/dynamo.
I do have spark (dual coils) when I kick it with the battery attached. So Pamco on...
This thread and series of posts covers the return-to-acceptable or return-to-functional service work done on an XS1B tachometer that had a severely sunbleached dial face, was exhibiting jittery/jumping needle and had poor internal illumination.
The terms 'overhaul', 'restoration', 'renew'...
Two weeks ago i popped the clutch, didn't know it was in gear and crushed the header pipe on low wall. I finally got a replacement and finished my front brakes rebuild so i took it for a spin. After about 15 min. the bike just cut out on me, as if someone had flipped the kill switch. I tried...
