"As found" meaning I don't know whether they are original to those engines.

There are a handful of very knowledgeable "historians" here - I'm not one of them - but, until they come along, attached is a diagram from an original parts manual that appears to show a filter similar to the one you found in the 1970 model. However, the part number listed in that manual (circa 1973) reflects a later number consistent with the filter found in the 1972 model.

Yes, I expect the later filter design was backwards compatible with earlier bikes.
