Well the 77D I was working on is now going to take a back seat to a '78 Special I bought early on in my accumulative activity and never really touched except to add in a new Mike's glass fuse kit. (I know better now). It is very complete, I have a burgundy tank for it, looks like the side panel were originally that colour, the tank it came had been painted black and some mythical creature with a half naked woman airbrushed on, but I digress.
The BS 38 carbs on it have only 2 molded in orifices in the bell mouth, the float bowls have the brass drains and the bodies have short plastice drains as well. My research says the carbs should be BS38's but with the 4 moulded orifices in the bell mouth. Is that correct?
The follow up question is whether all BS 38's with the 4 molded orifices in the bell mouth are always '78, '79 carbs? I understand that these were the best developed 38's prior to the introduction of the 34's. I am not a stickler for concours like equipment, but the year of the carb determines what original brass is in them for rebuild purposes.
