The one that is adapted to the sump plate filters oil before the pump.
The oil filter in the side filters oil after the pump.
You can also mod the right cover so the oil flows out through a hose to a filter and/or a cooler.
I have a side cover so modified. This works after the filter, same as the side cover filters, stock or aftermarket.
I also modified a sump plate to use a spin on filter.
I currently run the stock filters. They work fine, Just have to change the oil at 1000-1500 miles.
Even when I ran both spin on filters I changed the oil at no more than 2000 miles. Being the engine oil also runs the transmission, clutch and primary gears it gets a lot of abuse.
I took the modded side cover off to run a set of 1.5 inch head pipes from Mike's. They were bent so the pipes came too close to the right side cover and their was no room for the fittings.
I built a set of head pipes myself. They have plenty of room for the mods. I will put the modded side cover back on. Not for the oil filter but the oil cooler.
