charging issue

So newest trouble is I'm not charging. When I first got my bike and nervous to do work myself I had someone else install a mikes reg/rec now after some reading I now know he didn't unground brushes with nylon screws . Now I have just tried slap test with a wrench and screw driver and I don't appear to have any magnitization so does this mean stator is junk ?
