not sure exactly how this is supposed to go. i think you would want it sitting vertically to align the upper and lower case like shown. or is it supposed to sit horizontally, primarily in the upper or lower half?

as soon as you start wiggling the case back together, the other half will just push it around....don't matter.

got the case back together last night. everything went well except after i was done i look over to see my cam chain still on the bench. 
luckily i was able to get it on there without splitting the case again. i'll probably move on to the top end in a few days if i have time.
i was happy to see the stock fasteners cleaned up nicely.
