As the title states, I put new exhaust gaskets in and bolted up the pipes. Now the flanges are not seated flush to the head. I know these are crush gaskets and will have a bit of give but there seems to be a decent enough sized gap to cause me a little concern. I'll try to post some pics.

Anyone else have this issue when installing new gaskets?

That's pretty normal. They don't fit tight to the head. If they did, that would indicate the gaskets are shot and all compressed.

not fitted my headers and pipes yet but arn't you supposed to align and tighten up the header flanges before tightening the exhaust pipes ?

I found that on a three point connection- header flange to exhaust port, header pipe to muffler, muffler to frame- that you get the pieces to where you want them with a bit of wiggle room and then snug them down......lots of variables in that but my last endeavor worked well.

I will note that the headers were aftermarket without the fixed frame mount..... more variables.
