Fit newer motor into older bike

Yep makes sense, but the physical location is the same it seems. I'd hate to buy an additional 1980 full running bike to swap the motor into an 1971 bike and find frame mounts are located physically different.

The starter motor on the later engine may be a snug fit into an early frame. You need to use the engine mounts from the early frame and yes the engine's front mounting hole below the oil feed pipe moved forward after 71. Clean up the frame and check carefully around the rear mount, cracking in that area has been reported on early frames that were run hard. Compare the frames, they were beefed up for better handling after 73.
