Yes you do have to compress the rings to get the pistons into the cylinder. There is a taper on the bottom of the cylinder. I used that and my finders to help me get the rings compressed and the pistons in the cylinder. Some folks use a ring compresser to do the same thing. Both ways are good.Use a block of wood to hold the cylinder assembly us while compressing the rings. Get a a manual or check out www.biker.net for a online manual.
