Blimey that first image could be somewhere in Blighty. Good stuff, nice roads.
Today it was the Sportster's turn. First time out on it since December and after getting some fresh gas and riding for a few miles it started running great.

It was great being out on it again. It got a motor transplant late last year and I only got to take it out two times for test rides before the snow came. Next year it will 20 years old.

After 48,000 miles the crank failed and HD wanted $1700 for a new crank. Found a low miles motor out of a 06 for $1200 so that was they way I went. Apparently the 04 and early 05 had issues with con rod bearings. I transferred all the good stuff from the original motor( cams,lifters,push rods,rocker arms,extra plate clutch,high output starter and oil cooler) and turned down the rev limiter. Won't be hitting 7500 rpms anymore.

A quick ride today for errands and a visit to my brother recovering (nicely) from carpal tunnel sirgery. I revert to this bridge often. My grandfather built it to access his hay and cornfields in the thirties. It was a hobby farm. Now DNR regs would never allow such a structure. Each year the spring melt washes branches dead falls and branches down river and the bridge captures them. The pile on the shore is this year's bonfire wood for my brother, current owner. Here in the north the sun is still pretty low in the sky, this is early afternoon.
Bridge looks well built. That’s a lot of wood to clean up. Is the water deep?
Water is 2"-3" deep now, during thaws and after heavy rains the water flows over the bridge up to 6"-12". It seems there are 6 sections of railroad track spanning the creek set into the poured abutments. I do not know if the span was set there or poured in place. Big ancient snapping turtles live under the bridge. An 18" long female wonders up the drive 150' and lays her eggs in holes she digs at the edge of the gravel driveway every June mid-month. The hatchling often get lost making thier way back to the water.

My brother owns it now, for 20 years. When he witnesses the hatch he does "direct" them. Have you have ever heard the term "herd of turtles"? Harder to drive than a herd of turtles... Less organized than a herd of turtles... etc ?
