measuring float adjustment?

how do i measure the floats on the BS 38's.

here is my assumption:

remove bowls
place carb upside down on flat surface
with the float now resting on the needle measure from the rim where bowl gasket lines up to the float.

im not sure what part of the float your suppose to measure to or if the float should be in the upside down position resting on the needle.

so the float tang (tab) should be resting on the needle and measured to the top of the of the float?

the tab should be touching the needle but not pushing the spring down. if you measure off the gasket -1mm from what the manual says

so the spec on my flat is 24mm. do i add an additional 1mm for the gasket or measure 24mm from the gasket?

23mm from the gasket.

And measure from both sides. Many times the floats are tweaked or twisted on the hinge so that one side will sit higher or lower than the other. You want them straight.

22mm from the lip (which is just easier with most float tools)
