Maybe someone can help identify a front wheel I have, supposedly

from an XS650, but I can't confirm. It's a Takasago rim, stamped (a little hard to read) 180AX18 2G 206. Because of the odd-shaped letters, it could be 160AX18 or 180AX18 or even 190AX18 (I'll post photos). This is a steel spoked wheel (not alloy) with disc brake, which looks like early XS650, but is 18" rather than 19". From what I've checked, it could be from RD350/400, maybe SR500 or ??? Anyone with good familiarity with these wheels could give me some clues for better identification. Thanks for your help.

Thanks. I've tried finding images of the RD350 wheel that match this, and come up with a blank. The earlier RD350 were drum brake, maybe only the last year or two were disc. The specific form of this disc looks like the XS2 disc, with the semi-circular cut-outs. Still puzzled.

It's not from a 72 XS650. On a 72 the disk doesn't bolt to the spool also the speedo drive on a 72 is different. It's not from a XS650 because in 73 and later the disk does bolt to the spool but they also have bolt holes on the left side for bolting a disk to it.

I'm wondering if the wheel itself is from an RD350 (18") and the brake rotor/carrier was from an XS2. The cut-outs on the rotor carrier are semi-circular, as on the XS2, but the original on the RD350 were more trapezoidal. My confusion might be because of a hybrid combination. Who knows?

H'mmm. The disc carrier with the 8 semi-circles looks the same. The hub and wheel mount look different. Did any other XS (or any Yamaha) use the same disc carrier? I wonder how interchangeable parts were from these different model wheels.

I did notice the, Rotor Inner spoke, Has a lower profile because it is a 256mm disk. The small rotors are used on Euro 75-76 Twin disk front brake 553 Models. I would hazard, An XSS650 Rotor would fit the RD350 hub

The photos of the 73 RD350 wheel look very close to my mystery wheel, except for the drilled rotor (which could be aftermarket or modified). I looked at photos of a bunch of 73-74-75 RDs, and they all look the same as far as the hub and semi-circular rotor carrier. This is the closest I've seen anywhere. My front end must be an amalgam of some RD and XS parts, which surprisingly fit together and work as intended - although I have no idea why it was done, except perhaps as a scrounged-up solution to a question nobody asked. Thanks to all of you who have dug into this.

Discs of that era were not factory drilled.
