Okay, as I was typing I figured out that the mystery bolt is a rear master cylinder plunger.

Here's the bonus question:
What is the thing below that came in the glove box of an El Camino that I bought? The tip on the left looks like a ball point pen clicker, but it doesn't move. Nothing moves, or clicks, or rotates or screws or un-screws anywhere. The tip on the right looks like an eraser, but it isn't -- it's rubber, and is hollow like an eye-dropper bulb.
 
That's what's called a stylus, for using on touch screens on tablets or phones, instead of having to use your finger. Works well to operate small screen keyboards. Obviously, you use the rubber end on the screen, not sure why they make the other end like a pen clicker but they do.

It's to put a small key ring through so you can thread it onto a cord around your neck so folks will suppose you have a fancyass touchy pushy pad thingummy.
