learning curve, first where do I find book or manual to overhaul engine? I may have started backwards, but in honesty I do not care what frame it goes in, not concerned with originality, but want a XS650 engine, I bought 2 supposedly complete engines tonight, but disassembled, so I will start here. then try to find a frame I can put them in, and go from there. I wrenched on cars & Harleys for decades, so I understand mechanics, just need diagrams & specs to make sure these go together correctly.

I had 1 of these close to 30 years ago, sold it 20 years ago, it was the most fun bike I had, & I have always been a Harley rider, but always kept a couple cheap bikes to ride when working on main bike, now I have reached a time in my life where I hurt so much I need a lightweight bike to be able to ride much. I loved my old 650, but it had served me well, without anything other than a battery, but when wiring harness smoked, and burned, & quit charging I got rid of it. I have owned over a dozen bikes, but nothing was as fun, a few may have been lighter, but I need power for the occasional time my wife may want to ride. this is what I consider my best choice.

Welcome to the forums. There is a pdf manual available for download for free somewhere out there. I had it at one time but switched phones and lost it. I'm sure one of the guys has the link somewhere. These are pretty simple motors so reassembly shouldn't be too terribly difficult. There are still frames out there and I'm sure some full custom frames are available.
