Hey all, new member and new XS 850 Special owner.

Picked up a very clean 1980 XS850SG. About 25k on it, unmolested.

I’m going to be changing fluids and noticed that in order to change the shaft drive and middle gear oil, there is a special “dipstick” to measure the oil. Unfortunately, the tool kit didn’t have the dipstick.

My plan is to make my own. Does anyone have one of these tools that can give me the measurements for full/low measurements?

Thanks in advance.

I have a dimensioned drawing of the dip stick although there was some doubt in my mind as to if it was for a 850 or an 1100.
My plan is to 3D print one and drain the oil from the middle and final drive boxes then refill with the correct amount then adjust the marks from there.
I will have to hunt for the drawing but I got it from the UK triple website.

Found the thread, here is the info I have.

If you do sort it out I would be grateful if you could post the correct dimensions.

Somebody has to have one of these that can give dimensions right?

I don’t want to shell out $35, but I can’t find an alternative to correctly fill the drive oil

$32.50 will do.............$2.50 saving
