Short story...bought an 81 xs650 from a guy who had planned on building but never did. The bike came with pamco ignition, PMA and a small battery/capacitor. Everything came in boxes and engine was out of frame with no wiring harness...There’s no other wiring with it. I have wired it how I thought the directions said to do but can’t get it to start. The PO who’s a friend did have it running at one time which I witnessed. I feel like I’m missing something simple.

Does the e-advance kit NEED to have that blue box with it? I don’t have one and wasn’t sure how this thing gets wired up.

Here are a few pictures of my setup for now if it helps.

You need to isolate the Pamco to check for spark and the timing using a battery........Your bike has advance weights so it doesn't have an E-Advance............

These units have evolved over the years, meaning the board.s visual's have changed........I'm not sure the unit you actually have going by your pic. The early pamco's without the E-Advance didn't have the diodes as large on the unit.............someone may chime in and help with that

Here is a Pamco set up and troubleshooting and Frequently asked Q&A thread...............Do take note of ........Warnings, cautions and Notes...... and any comments that PamcoPete makes about using a Pamco with a PMA set up...........read the whole thread.......

650skull is on the right path. Use a fully charged battery to power up the PAMCO with the PMA disconnected so you can hopefully get the engine to run to facilitate trouble shooting the PMA after you get the engine running. The version of PAMCO that you have looks like an early non E-Advance model.

Cool - its a great system and it sure seems to make XS650s run well!
