Plugged exhaust Header pipe

Bought a nice 1975 xs650b a year and a half ago would not run on left side.New pamco ignition cleaned carbs blew through pipe,finally brought to friend for a different opinion said cut pipe open and viola!!

Nice,huh? That used to happen to Ford cars in the mid to late'70. The find from Ford was to remove the 'Y' pipe & drop a golf ball through it. If it didn't come out the other end,,,, Glad you found & posted the problem. Good luck with your new headers.
 
I Think it can happen in two ways.
Water gets in between the pipes. Plugged lower vents don't let the water out. In freezing weather ice forms and crushes the inner pipe.
Or, Heat turns the water to steam and the steam crushes the inner pipe. Just My guesses. Could be a factory thing but I think it would have been found by the first owner if it was.
