My xs650 has a leak from the throttle butterfly valves, spray a little starting fluid right at them and the bike dies, I just replaced the seals but it still seams to be leaking, I think I might have put them in the wrong way. With the lip facing out, would that make a difference? If so, how should they go in? Thanks

Sounds like you put them in correctly. The open side of the seal should face out. How were the holes in the carb bodies for the shafts? Any play? If the holes are worn sometimes new seals won't help. Also, these seals don't seal completely at idle many times. They work on vacuum and seal tighter the faster you go. As long as they're sealing good enough so you're not getting the wandering or high idle or hearing a whistling sound, you're probably good.
