I recently finished lowering my forks. I used a 3" hhb spacer and cut the spring 3". After assembly but before I added oil, I compressed one of the fork legs and it feels a bit scratchy. All the internals were well cleaned before assembly. The preload adjustment bolt was set at the same setting as it was before, the most preload. I would like to keep it there to keep the fork stiff.

Now my question is, is the scratchiness from spring bind or just lack of oil? Its not horrible and the fork compressed smoothly, as in it didn't feel like it was binding up, but like I said kind of scratchy. I might be over thinking this but I'm not sure what it is supposed to feel like. Thanks

It is probable that you are over thinking it. I'd go ahead and put em' back together. Once the oil is in there and all is back where it belongs I think you'll be good to go. Three inches is a lot. Be sure to check clearances at full compression before doing anything very sporty.
