Im sure this is a very stupid question, but I haven't ever really had someone show me the proper feel for feeler gauges. Setting up the valves, I can get it so .004 slides in freely and has very LITTLE drag coming out. However, when I do that I can slide the .005 in with some force and it drags heavily going and coming. Same for the .006/.007 on the exhaust side. Which way do I need to set the valve up for? Am I just not tightening up the valve enough on the .004/.006 and need to go a hair more?

Yes, tighten them up some. You want a definite drag on the feeler gauge and you don't want the next size up to go in, well maybe super tight but not easily. Slide the gauge back and forth, in and out slightly, to judge and feel the drag. You want enough drag so it slides in and out straight but doesn't buckle or bow up as you're sliding it.
