Tacho drive removal

Quick question guys, I had to open the right side case, the bikes been sitting for a while, but I recently removed the tach cable because I removed the speedo, my question is,

The long tach drive if I remove it, will the oil pump inside and that big gear still function correctly? Sorry if it sounds like a simple question but I want to cap off where the cable would attach to but need to know if I keep the tach rod in or can I remove it?

The tach drive shaft is driven by the oil pump gear. Removing the tachometer shaft will have no affect on the oil pump gear.

At the bottom of the shaft where it fits into the sidecover, there's a shim washer. Make sure you remove it also.

Sorry, do you mean the top of the shaft? Where it would attach tot he other piece that attaches to the cable?

Oh, did not pay attention to that, will have to look and see if it's in the sidecover or the rod, thanks for the heads up
