Hello, I am partway thru the restoration of a 72 xs2. Its time to get a few bits re-chromed. The bike is mostly complete and original and I wish to keep it as close to factory finish as reasonably possible.

Those front fender bolts (x6) which hold the struts/stays on to the fender are the originals chromed or polished zinc??

Mine are all discoloured/rusty but I would rather keep them

Thanks

Thanks for that. I dident think of cadmium. Surprised they were not chrome. Fortunately the "acorn's" are ok - still polish up well enough. Its not always the big items which need cleaning and fixing

The bolts them selves never get seen, the heads under the fender and the shank is through the fender, brace and nuts and such so the only parts that get chrome is the nuts and washers.

Ok, I have taken a pic of the front fender bolts that hold the stays on. The bolt heads are on the top and the nuts are welded on the under side. The chrome is ok...its just the bolts need attention. These have not been removed yet.
