hi folks, getting a custom speedo cable made and would like someone to measure the square end of a speedo cable and tell me what size it is please as i'm having trouble measureing inside whats there. thanks from new zealand
On my '71 XS1B speedo cable, I'm showing 0.098" (2.5mm).
You could try fitting some drill bits into the speedo's socket end, the diameter should get you close enuff to the square size. Probably want about 0.004" (0.1mm) smaller for the cable's square end to slide in there.
Long ago, I had to do some cable ends. Took a couple of steel blocks, clamped them together, drilled a slightly smaller hole right between them, then filed them with a square file to finish size.
I would sandwich the cable end between them, and smack hard with a hammer.
Not factory perfect, but worked well enuff...
