part # 90116-08150-00 BOLT,STUD

How to get sizes of bolts from the part numbers...
The Yamaha microfiche shows the bolt size, you just have to know how to read it. Here is how it works...

The part number is broken down into 3 parts 99999-06012-00 is an example. The second part, which is 06012 tells you the size. That bolt is 6mm in diameter and 12mm in length. If the second part was 08024 the bolt would be 8mm in diameter and 24mm in length. The first part of the part number tell what type of part it is such as bolt, screw, washer etc. and last 2 digits generally determines the finish such as black, cad, etc

You can tell by looking at them it's metric coarse thread

from this chart you will see that 8mm coarse is 1.25 pitch

Metric Thread Pitch and Tapping Sizes

Size Pitch (mm) Tapping Diameter (mm) Clearance Holes (mm)
Coarse Fine Coarse Fine Close Medium Coarse
M1.6 0.35 1.25 1.7 1.8 2.0
M2 0.4 1.6 2.2 2.4 2.6
M2.5 0.45 2.05 2.7 2.9 3.1
M3 0.5 2.5 3.2 3.4 3.6
M4 0.7 3.3 4.3 4.5 4.8
M5 0.8 4.2 5.3 5.5 5.8
M6 1.0 5.0 6.4 6.6 7.0
M8 1.25 1.0 6.8 7.0 8.4 9.0 10.0
M10 1.5 1.25 8.5 8.7 10.5 11.0 12.0
M12 1.75 1.25 10.2 10.8 13 14 15
M16 2.0 1.5 14.0 14.5 17.0 18.0 19.0
M20 2.5 1.5 17.5 18.5 21.0 22.0 24.0
M24 3.0 2.0 21.0 22.0 25.0 26.0 28.0
M30 3.5 2.0 26.5 28.0 31.0 33.0 35.0
M36 4.0 3.0 32.0 33.0 37.0 39.0 42.0

So you will need an 8mm by 1.25 nut.

Sorry about that funky! the early engines (70-73?) used an 8mm stud for the exhaust. The later engines 74?-84 use a 10mm. But late engines use the same 8mm stud between the head / head cover, so when I looked at the fiche it showed all years XS650 using that 8mm stud. When I went out and started measuring exhaust studs I found the difference. My apologies.

No worries GGGgary i figured it out all good now. I wanted to change my studs but I figure they been in there for 30 years so did not want to mess with them ....
