HI Guys
My Name is Gavin.
I've signed up to this forum for some help please. I am currently rebuilding a Honda CB450, yes I know.. :) But apparently it has a front end conversion which someone from hondatwins recommended I see if it is off a Yammy xs650 or similar.
Any help would be appreciated. If it is, and parts are easy to come by I would be interested in probably sticking with the front end and adding another caliper and disc to make it a dual system. So please help identify, and if anyone has some parts to help me achieve this I would be interested in buying.
So here are some pics and thanks in advance.. please let me know what you think.
Gav
The link below is to my shared folder on one drive where all the pics of the front end are.

It looks like you have 1976 XS650 forks. Those forks are specific to 1976 only. You will need 1976-specific calipers. Your wheel and brake rotor are correct for the forks. Your fender is wrong. The following links should help you (1976 is the "C" model):

BTW, my guess is that finding the correct 1976-specific left side brake caliper to make a dual-brake system will be nearly impossible.

After a little further research, finding that caliper might not be so hard after all. I'm not sure, and maybe someone else can confirm, but the only difference between the left and right side 1976 calipers seems to be that you swap the position of the so-called "bridge" bolts #1 and #2, and then you want the "ears" on the brake pads to fit in slots on the other side of the caliper. I don't see why you couldn't just grind the correct slots in a right-side caliper to change it to a left-side caliper.

In 1976 they changed the position of the caliper from leading to trailing. So, I think it might also be possible that a 1974 or 1975 right-side leading caliper could be used as a 1976 left-side trailing caliper.

Cheers DogBunny for your research. Already I have been pointed in the right direction and potentially sourced some parts. I am now firmly set in my dual disc setup, forward of the fork.
So basically will be entire 1976 yammy XS 650 front end on a 1972K4 CB450! Café building at its best I reckon. As its going to be a café initially then moving to as original as I can get, I think it will add a bit of wow factor with the dual disc setup.

Oh I love CB's I just bought a cb650 last week, cool bikes...yours is probably a little cooler since it has some xs parts on it too haha

Yeah they are cool, especially the unique engine design particularly the torsion bars for the valves, and being a twin.
I basically got the bike after hearing my partners uncle had it sitting on the shed as a gunna gunna do that one day resto. Offered him a price and he accepted! I have fully rebuilt a Suzuki RG250 and was going to do the same bike again before coming across this.
Looking forward to the challenge but the abundance of helpful people willing to lend a hand with advice and tips makes it so much easier.

Thanks!

Would someone be able to tell me the lengths of the inner and outer spokes on the front standard disc wheel 36hole? I had to cut them as they were seized and tossed them. I've found a guy who deals with vintage wheels and looking to source some used ones so I can recondition. I know I can buy new ones but I'm trying to match the rear with that "ive been around for a while look".
Any help appreciated.
Gavin
