What is this yellow thing in my camshaft? This is my first engine rebuild and i am planning just to use scrub/paint thinner method for my internal parts.
I'd guess it denoted it passed specs when measuring , this mark goes to this side of the head, or something along those lines from the factory, for install.
My first thought was liver spots! In production, paint sticks can be used to denote many things. Some manufacturers use them as a mark for a part rejected, reworked, or taken as a random quality control sample and checked against the print specs. Wouldn't worry about it by any means, but if it's survived in the motor for this long, it may not come off with paint thinner.
