    MAC 2 into 1

Looking for some input here. I started in on my bike with VM34's and a MAC 2 into 1 with a Hoos Racing Muffler/Baffle. It ran okay, but, not great. It coughed and sputtered a bit and didn't have any low end grunt. Crack it open and after a bit it seemed to just take off when it hit the upper...

How quiet can these bikes be?

I'm starting a slow search for an XS650. I live in Suburbia and one of the things I intend to use this bike for is going to the gym at 5AM when my kids and not a lot of neighbors are awake. I hate it when loud crap starts before anyone is out of bed and I don't want to be that guy. Has anyone...

Any experience with this 2 into 1 exhaust? Thoughts...?

I'm thinking about exhausts and would like to install a 2 into 1. Mike's is selling this header and it looks nice. My other thought would be to have a custom 2 into 1 buit to my desire, however this looks like the easiest option. Has anyone installed it? Any thoughts on how it fits, how it...

    Ideal design for pipes?

So after quite a bit of research, it seems that the ideal exhaust dimensions are 1 5/8" tube that's between 38-40" long for each pipe. I've also read that a 1 3/4" pipe off the head followed by a step down to 1.5" after the bend is a great way to get good mid-range power. I plan on running a...

What am I missing on my exhaust?

So I got these 2-1 pipes from a fellow xs650 forum guy. They were on a special he had, but I have to be missing something. He can't remember. First I have to bend them out to slip in the engine ports, but he said they always did that. The issue is, they bottom out all the way inside. There...

    1 3/4" pipes on a stock motor?

Are 1 3/4" pipes too big for a stock 650? Even with Omar's Exhaust Optimizer and port inserts? I'm looking at his claimed power gains and they are enticing.

    Exhaust question:

Hey guys, getting to my final stage in my 1981 XS650 project, if I can't find an exhaust, I may have to cut and put an universal muffler pipes on my bike, head pipes are good, mufflers are shot:doh: but which would fit mine from mikesxs?

    Attaching headers?

If your just running with straight header pipes that end somewhere around the foot pegs, can they just be secured at the top, or do you need to somehow clamp or attach them to the frame down below? Thanks, Jeff

Need the measurement on exhaust studs

Hello, I was wondering if someone had or could measure the exhaust studs from center to center. I'm making some flanges and don't have the bike in front of me. Thanks you in advance, Jack

Heat Wrap, is it a bad idea?

Hi, I was just wonder your thoughts on exhaust Heat wrap? I was thinking of wrapping them because of; 1. air leaks at the muffler. 2. melted my boots My Pipes allready get very hot and am concerned the wrap will keep the heat in too much and maybe cause damage somewhere? Cheers, Dave.

    Exhaust snort

My 73 has straight headers with homemade baffles. When you let off the throttle it sounds like a snoring or snort sound. It sounds good when accelerating just annoying on decel. The baffles are short with three bolts that are closely spaced. Could these be the problem?

    Reverse exhaust sound

I have an 81 650 with bs34's and uni pod filters. It has a stock exhaust chopped right past the pegs and when I let off the throttle I get this reverse exhaust almost a raspberry sounding noise. I have tried stock main jet all the way to a 155 and stock pilot and up one on the pilot. I've...
