    Can I do this?

I'm wanting to run a DT360 tank on my 81 SP2. If I drop it on the backbone using the stock gusset mounts it hits the head (specifically the top mount). I can remove the mount but in my mind I have issues with the rigidity of the fork since the backbone isn't supported by the motor. I have seen...

    King Queen Seats

Hi guys, posting from Australia. Just got a 1973 TX650 and going to do the funny chopper look. I want to fit a king-queen seat, happy to do some minor welding/fab if need be. Anyone got any they want to sell? I know a lot of people didn't like this look back in the day, surely there are some...

Anyone used other/custom frame with stock tank, seat, etc

As much as I like the look of a stock XS, the weight, handling and brakes are a bit disappointing. I know that Rickman frames for the XS has been made, as well as various flat track frames, and that Richard Pollock has built some XS street trackers with custom frames. Also, the way the...

    Engine/Frame VINs Don't Match?

A few months ago I purchased one these beloved Yammies under the impression it was a '77 XS-D (U.S.). The title matched the VIN stamped on the neck tube, and using the attached .pdf (readily found in several threads), I confirmed this to be true. Although the bike was fairly stock, the previous...

    Black frame paint

Hello I am new to bike restoration and have a question about the sheen of the black frame paint. I picked up a 1977 xs650d barn find a couple of weeks ago. It was a mouse hotel for 18 years. I fixed the electrical system, got the 1/4" inch of varnish out of the tank and carbs. I set...

For the past couple of years a friend and I have been building a post classic sidecar using an XS 650. Look what I found inside my frame....!?

I drilled a hole in the frame to insert a threaded bung for mounting my exhaust and suddenly go drenched by at least a pint worth of black watery gunk.... So I drilled a small hole in the other side and got the same if not more water and black gunk. I got my exhaust hung, started it up and...

    Frame issues

So. I have decided to post this up on here and see what the guru's say. I have a frame on a bike that was badly damaged and has been repaired at this point. It is however not 100%. When you insert the swingarm bolt from right to left (damaged side), the bolt goes in up to where the threads...
