rectifier swap?

would a 1981 xs400 rectifier be an acceptable swap for my 72 xs 650? the 650 is bare bones, just head & tail light

IMO if you have one give it a try, you have nothing to lose. If you don't have one do the Radio Shack rectifier build, courtesy of Pamcopete

ok doing the chrysler/rs swap, and got a question, i know one of the reg wires goes to the brush (green wire), where does the wire form the other brush go? probably a noob question, but kinda stumped......

You should always post what year your bike is. Assuming you have an 80 to 83, here is the link, have you read it?

Sorry I have an 81, and am still lost. Just need to know,green wire goes from brush to reg, but where does the other wire lead to ground, or where?

If you read the thread posted by retiredgentleman, going to page 3, pamcopete's reply to marlboroman,

One wire goes to the ignition switch for +12 and the other wire goes to the green wire and the brush.

Also, pamcopete tells how to ground the regulator, but thats in another part of the thread.

The other brush wire should be brown. This wire hooks to power after the switch. The same as the bike was with the stock reg/rec.
