Anybody gonna watch the launch coverage today? Besides me that is.
Absofreakinglutely I am! Right up until they stop broadcasting, or until they scrub the launch on account of the weather, whichever comes first. I've been waiting for this kind of stuff all my life.... I watched a special last night on "Discovery" with Elon Musk. One of the engineers described the boosters returning to Earth and landing as dropping a pecil off the Empire State Building, having it land on the eraser, on a postage stamp. While it sounds impossible, it can be done. That's what engineers do. On another note, a friend of mine in Tucson suggested they should've built the space port in Tucson, where it never rains, and never will again. I said, they did it the way they did so failures would just go "splooonk" in the Atlantic, instead of potentially populated areas. He may, of course have been pulling my leg....
the new suits look so much less bulky than the NASA shuttle suits. It makes me wonder if NASA simply overdesigned the hell out of them for safety, or what?
These suits look like they're straight out of the movie Interstellar.
