Well guys it about time i make a build thread The bike is already finished (well its never finished but its rideable).

First a little background about myself. Im 19 years old currently going to school part time for engineering and am an mechanic at a bike shop (bicycle) and on the side i do a lot of metal fabrication work. I was always into dirtbikes growing up and a little over a year before i started this build my dad bought himself a harley and i decided i needed my own bike, One day saw a xs650 bobber online and fell in love.. and welp a week later i bought one.

I did 100% of the work in house, from the fab work to powder coat and paint.

So on October 7th, 2011 i bought a 1981 xs650 from a member on here. This is what i brought home.

Fast forward to today i have put over 600 awesome miles on it and plenty more to come. Still have much more to do till its "finished" such as a rear fender (which i ordered from 7 metal west over 5 weeks ago and still waiting..), turn signals, and a pma kit.

I also just made a new set of pipes last week, which i think are much better then the last.

Thanks for all the help you guys gave me, I spent hours and hours searching this forum :bike:

Nice looking bike... Good luck with the fender, mine took 10wk. How do you do the different colors with powder?

10 weeks :yikes: as far as the powder cost goes its the same as with paint, primer, base coat, mask off, next coat, then clear. The only difference is that you have to cure each coat so it's a long process.

awesome looking bike! Where did you get that speedo? Looks really nice and small.

that speedo is the "chrome mini" from mikesxs, I'm really happy with it except for the fact that it's chrome.

That is a great build thread and great bike - you should be very proud of yourself! As soon as I have my donor, ill be off on another build - hardtail this time

Makes sense. IDK why, but I had always been under the impression that powder was all or nothing as any additional coat would destroy the first coat when you went to cure it.

Ordered a high output ignition coil from mikes a few days ago and payed for 2nd day air since the bike is unridable right now. Open the box today and its broken :banghead:

latest project, 6 LEDS with a light output of 2200 lumens. Fits in the stock bulb location

At 19, you're already off to one hell of a good start. Bike is looking great so far. I'm looking forward to seeing it with a rear fender on it. Looks unfinished without one, IMO.

Thanks! Much appreciated. I actually finished the fender last week!

Damn, that is one cool build, you should be proud. I'm really liking the paint/powder coat! Where did you get your supplies to cover your seat?

Thanks for the kind words every one! Rogue, i got the supplys at Tandy leather. I have one local to me, but they also have a website.

Finished the light. 2200 lumens with high beams on drawing only 2 amps. Compare to the 8 amps a standard bulb pulls.

Fits in the standard h4 socket and plugs into the 3 prong connector
