I love the color. Decals, meh. I have a XS650E that got those. I'm going for something else.

Thanks. I do feel a bit uncomfortable at times with some of the stuff that's shown. A good original restoration is terrific. But they're only original once and sometimes they're built to a far shinier condition than anything a factory produces. Individual taste, of course.

LOL! I got exactly the response I was hoping for. It's been a very helpful discussion. I'm now minded to keep it very simple. Gold colour pin striping as per previous post. Base colour to be decided but probably black.

Any of the colors/black with stripes/patterns I think looks good.
Only thing that does not IMO would be an all plain black bike (like a Harley)
All bikes are good though

Seen an all black standard and they look ok. Enough chrome with the alloy engine to look balanced.

Every Special model from 79 had a 1 black paint version as well as another colour. Most all can b seen in the link above.

I think it’d be cool to do an early style tank and paint like Mailman’s revised and customized 72 tank, but with the base color star black, white stripe with a gold pinstripe and black side covers. Classy.

This is rather nice too, simple, no tough to apply large decals. Would be cool in black paint too.

I always thought the simplicity of this scheme added a certain elegance to the bike. It is something I aimed at for the "Red Bike".

Yes. Simple is very nice in my eye. Maybe I am just an incurable gearhead but my eye wants to wander to the motor. Hence my Red Bike has very little chrome as a distraction, just some semi polished alloy and very stunning paint.

I have seen many iterations using the basic Yamaha outline stripe then inserting a pattern or scheme inside that outline.
