ACHTUNG!!!

I use this type
You screw it on and pump the tire and then remove it again Only used while pumping and checking pressure.
It does leak little putting it on and off. But i don't know how to avoid it and it is not more than pumping without it.
I feel it is a working solution

Just as a matter of, interest, how are parts for price? I heard BMW parts were quite expensive.

March 2 - 2025 Update

@toglhot - BMW parts prices are ....somewhat higher than other brands I would say but unlike XS650 stuff, the quality seems to be uniformly good.

The key point in all of this is that I am talking about 40+ year old aircooled BMW “R” models - ONLY.

The newer oil and liquid-cooled models are much more complex and while they are great bikes to ride, I have heard some awful tales of electrical and mechanical problems and absurdly high parts prices.

Nobody seems to make crappy parts for these old AirHeads and frankly, if I couldn't afford to keep it running, I likely shouldn't be riding it. The other point is that the older BMWs AirHeads are very durable and reliable (two key words which do not mean the same thing).

I haven't had to replace any mechanical parts except the worn-out brake discs and a couple of gaskets and she still runs and rides like a new bike IMO.

I am still very happy with dear old Gretel.

The R100RS with that optional single seat is definitely an iconic motorcycle. The combination of good comfort, good weather protection, effortless 100 mph cruising and a great fuel range makes for an effective mile muncher even compared to current bikes. Not bad for a 48 year old design.

Agreed @arcticXS - and I am so fortunate that my bike came with the optional seat in mint condition (except for the paint job).

I can report that I was riding in heavy traffic one day and a guy pulled up beside me, rolled down his window and offered me $500-1000 for the seat. He wanted to follow me home and give me cash if I would sell it to him.
