Cam Chain

Do you have a repair manual? Biker.net has them as a free download. The factory manual is best, then the Haynes, then the Clymer. I would reccomend you getting one. You will find it your most important and most used tool you can own.
The adjuster is under and between the carbs. To adjust you remove the outer cover then loosen the lock nut. Now turn the engine over slowly until the rod is out as far as it can go, this shows the tightest spot in the chain. With the lock nut loose turn the adjuster until the rod is flush with the end of the adjuster.
It is better to adjust with the engine warmed up and idling. Then adjust the adjuster til the rod moves in and out a bit, about 1-2 mm's but not come out past flush with the adjuster.
When adjusted lock the nut replace the outer cover.

on a model without the lock nut...what do you do to keep it in place? Mine 78 special, only has one large nut, no additional lock nut. Thanks!
